No fancy motivation stuff. Just a system you can actually run daily.

Most sets fall into a few buckets:
Tables, schedules, rankings, ordering
Venn and grouping
Distribution, constraints, matching
Small graphs and caselets

The simple scoring rule you should follow for 30 days
Every set you attempt, track it like this:
S (Solved fully): you got most questions correct and finished within target time
P (Partially solved): you got 1 to 2 questions correct but couldn’t finish
D (Dumped): you left early (good dump) or got stuck (bad dump)
Your improvement isn’t “more S”. It’s:
fewer bad dumps
more good dumps
more partial converts into full solves
You will literally see the score move when your dumping becomes smarter.
Tools you need (keep it boring)
A4 notebook only for LRDI
A timer (phone timer is fine)
A spreadsheet or simple tracker (even Notes app works)
That’s it.
No extra apps. No new resources mid-month. Pick one main source of sets and stick to it.

The 30-day framework (high level)
We will split the month into four phases:
Days 1 to 7: Foundations and representation
Days 8 to 14: Speed with accuracy, set selection training
Days 15 to 21: Mixed practice + timed mini sections
Days 22 to 30: Full section simulation + deep analysis
Each day you will do 60 to 90 minutes. If you have more time, don’t just add sets. Add analysis.
Because LRDI is one of those areas where analysis is the real practice. Weird, but true.

Days 1 to 7: Foundations (solve slower, learn patterns)
This week is not about speed. It’s about learning how sets “want” to be represented.
Daily structure (60 to 75 minutes)
1) Warm up (5 minutes) Pick a very small puzzle or mini LR question and do it quickly. Just to switch your brain on.
2) Main practice: 2 sets untimed (35 to 45 minutes total) Choose sets that are easy to moderate. Not brutal.
Rule: you are allowed to be slow, but your solution must be clean.
3) Post-solve write-up (15 to 20 minutes)
For each set, write:
What was the set type?
What representation worked? (table, list, diagram, matrix)
What was the first key inference?
Where did you waste time?
If you could restart, what would you do first?
This write-up is the thing that will save you later.
What to focus on in Week 1
A) Representation drills Before you solve, pause and decide representation. Don’t start calculating.
Common representations you should practice:
2-way tables (people vs slots, items vs categories)
Ranking tables (1 to n positions)
Binary matrices (Yes/No, present/absent)
Venn diagrams only when the language clearly supports it
Flow style constraints for scheduling sets
B) One inference at a time A lot of students try to “finish the set in their head”. Don’t.
Write the constraints. Build the table. Fill one sure thing. Then the next.
C) Learn to stop If after 4 minutes you still don’t know what to draw, that’s a signal. Not always dump, but a signal.
Write: “What am I missing?” Often the set is telling you the structure in line 2 and you skipped it.
End of Day 7 checkpoint
Take 4 sets (easy to moderate), time yourself loosely, and see:
Are your tables cleaner than Day 1?
Are you making fewer random assumptions?
Do you understand why you got something wrong?
If yes, move on.
Days 8 to 14: Speed + set selection (this is where scores start moving)
This week you’ll start solving under time pressure, but not full section pressure yet.
Daily structure (75 to 90 minutes)
1) 1 timed set (12 minutes max) Stop at 12 minutes even if unfinished. This is important. Mark it S, P, or D.
2) 1 untimed set (15 to 20 minutes) Pick a set type you struggle with. Solve slowly, build method.
3) Analysis (30 to 40 minutes) For the timed set, do a proper post-mortem:
At minute 3, did you know the representation?
At minute 6, did you have at least 2 solid inferences?
Did you chase calculations?
Did you ignore options when they could help?
Was it a set you should have dumped earlier?
The set selection rule (very practical)
In IPMAT LRDI, the first 2 to 3 minutes decide your score.
During those first minutes, look for:
Data size: Too many variables with too few constraints is a trap.
Constraint density: More clear conditions usually means more solvable.
Calculation load: If it smells like long arithmetic, be careful.
Entry point: Is there something you can fill immediately?
If you can’t identify an entry point fast, it might still be solvable. But in an exam, solvable is not enough. It has to be solvable fast enough.
Mini habit: “First sketch in 90 seconds”
Train yourself to produce a rough table or diagram within 90 seconds.
Even if it’s wrong at first. Put something on paper quickly, then correct it.
Speed in LRDI often comes from not freezing.
End of Day 14 checkpoint (a small test)
Do a mini section:
3 sets in 36 minutes
Try to solve at least 2 sets well
Then analyze like a detective. Don’t just see the score.
Days 15 to 21: Mixed practice + timed mini sections (convert partials to full)
Most students at this stage can do a set or two. The gap is converting partial progress into full marks.
That’s what this week is for.
Daily structure (90 minutes)
1) Timed mini section (40 minutes)
3 sets, 40 minutes
Choose mixed difficulty, but not insane.
Your goal is not to attempt all. Your goal is to maximize correct answers.
2) Deep analysis (45 to 50 minutes) For each set:
Did you choose it for the right reason?
When did you first feel stuck?
What was the correct “pivot” moment? (switch approach, use options, draw different table)
Was your working messy?
The “pivot” skill (this is huge)
LRDI sets often require a pivot.
Examples:
You start with a table but realize a matrix is cleaner.
You try direct solving but options allow elimination.
You keep calculating but a ratio cancels out.
You assumed a variable but should have tried cases.
In analysis, explicitly write: “My pivot should have been at minute X.”
This one line will improve your decision-making fast.
One day in Week 3 should be “Redo day”
Pick 4 sets you got wrong or dumped earlier in the month. Redo them fresh.
You’ll be surprised how many feel easy now. That’s progress you can’t see through scores alone.
End of Day 21 checkpoint
You should now be able to:
Create representation quickly
Dump at least one set early without guilt
Finish at least one set confidently under time pressure in most mini sections
If not, it’s okay. But identify the reason.
Is it speed? Representation? Panic? Calculation?
Don’t label it “LRDI is hard”. That’s not a reason.
Days 22 to 30: Full simulation + exam temperament
Now we simulate real conditions and build temperament.
Because LRDI in IPMAT isn’t only about solving. It’s about staying composed when the first set is weird.
Plan for these 9 days
You’ll do:
5 full LRDI sections (or full mocks where LRDI is a section)
4 targeted practice days based on your errors
If your coaching provides mocks, use those. If not, assemble a section from past style sets and timed sets. Keep it consistent.
Full section day (about 90 to 120 minutes total with analysis)
1) Attempt (as per exam time) Follow real rules:
One sitting
No pauses
No checking solutions mid-way
2) Immediate debrief (10 minutes) Write quickly:
Set order you chose
What you dumped and why
Biggest time sink
3) Analysis (60 to 90 minutes) This is where the rank jumps. Look for patterns.
Common patterns to catch:
Always stuck in arrangement sets
Wasting time reading long caselets twice
Losing accuracy because of messy tables
Overattempting (trying 3 sets badly instead of 2 sets well)
Getting emotionally attached to the first set
Targeted days (4 days)
Each targeted day should follow this structure:
Pick your weakest set type
Do 3 sets of that type: one untimed (method), one timed (pressure), and one timed again (repeat under pressure)
Then analysis. This creates a controlled environment for improvement.
Day 30: Your final LRDI audit (don't skip this)
On Day 30, do a self audit by completing the following steps:
List your top 5 recurring mistakes
List your top 3 best set types
Write your exam strategy in 6 lines
Your exam strategy should cover:
How many sets you aim to solve
How long you'll spend deciding a set
When you'll dump
What you do if set 1 is scary
What you do if you make a silly mistake early
What keeps you calm
This becomes your last-week revision note.
A realistic daily timetable you can copy paste

Weekdays (60 to 75 minutes)
10 min: 1 small LR warmup
45 min: 2 sets (one timed, one untimed)
10 to 20 min: analysis notes
Weekends (120 minutes)
40 min: mini section or full section
60 to 70 min: analysis
10 min: redo 1 old set quickly
The key is consistency. Even 60 minutes daily beats 4 hours on Sunday.
How to analyze a set properly (quick checklist)
When you check solutions, don’t just nod and move on.
Use this checklist:
Did I pick the right representation?
Was there a hidden constraint I missed?
Could I have used options?
Was there a faster first inference?
Where exactly did I start drifting?
Was it an accuracy error or a concept error?

Every time you mess up, write one line:
“Missed condition in line 3.”
“Table got messy, misread value.”
“Did not dump early, ego issue.”
“Overcalculated instead of using options.”
A month later you’ll see your patterns. And you can fix patterns.
